“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” – Genesis 1:1
“The LORD by wisdom hath founded the earth; by understanding hath he established the heaven. By his knowledge the depths are broken up, and the clouds drop down the dew.” – Proverbs 3:19
*To begin, the God made the heavens and the earth. This may be an easy thing for us to grasp. So lets go to step two:
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”- John 1:1
“All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.” – John 1:3
“And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.” – John 1:14
*So we know that God made the heavens and the earth. (refer to John 1:3) We now see that all things were made by him.
Him = the Word = God (refer to John 1:1)
We can replace these words in the preceding verses with each other and will still get the same meaning. Now the Word (or God) was made flesh and was on earth. We “beheld” God in the flesh only as the glory of God.
Word made flesh= glory of God= only begotten of the Father.
Why do we behold God in the flesh only as the glory of God and not God in his total fullness?
“No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared [Him].” – John 1:18
So who is the “only begotten Son” (the glory of God or God in the flesh) that is in the “bosom of the Father”?
“Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou [then], Shew us the Father? Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works. Believe me that I [am] in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works’ sake.“
So Jesus Christ has said that he is “in the Father” (the bosom of the Father) and the Father is in him. By making this radical statement, either Jesus Christ has now become a lier or his words are true. There is no way to believe that he was just a prophet or a good man, when he clearly had expressed that he is the only begotten Son, which is the glory of God, which is God in the flesh.
“The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.” – Mark 1:1
“Then they all said, “Are You then the Son of God?” So He said to them, “You [rightly] say that I am.”" – Luke 22:70
“I and [My] Father are one.”" – John 10:30
These are the other times in the bible that Jesus declared with his own mouth that he was the Son of God. So either Jesus is a lier or he is the Son of God – there is no in between.
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” – John 3:16
So this verse is interesting because it ties it everything together. God gave his glory = God in the flesh = only begotten Son to the world to save the world. So who ever believes that Jesus Christ was the son of God, will not perish. Thus, whoever does not, will perish.
“For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ” – 1 Thessalonians 5:9
We were not made to perish by the wrath of God but to get salvation through Christ by first believing in him. If it is so easy to believe in Santa Claus (even when we didn’t have a chimney), or in evolution (which we only go on theory because we were not there at the beginning), or even in other vanities as hip hop (Tupac coming back, or Jay-Z as the “best rapper alive”), or Obama’s pledge for change (we can believe in….), why not believe in Christ?
I have more where this came from…stay tuned for more of the God Honest Truth….
